I purchased this while traveling out of desperation. I needed coffee and I had a stove in my hotel, as well as a grocery store nearby. I knew I'd be swamped with work, so that ruled out stopping at cafes for a caffeine fix.I bought this from a specialty coffee store near my hotel, which surprisingly didn't carry Bialetti. It was 10 bucks so I figured, at worst, I lose the money.I know that moka pots must be "seasoned", so late at night (when I had time!) I made 3-4 batches and threw them away. Each time, water leaked from the middle of the pot, at the crease where the bottom and top meet. And each new time I made sure all parts were in their place and screwed on tight. Finally, on the 5th batch I tasted the coffee (fresh Illy coffee ground) and it was just horrible. I drink the same coffee every day, so the only change was this pot. The coffee was burnt, bitter, watery, everything bad that could possibly be!After I got home, mostly as an experiment, I kept trying to make at least one decent cup of coffee with this pot. I thought, "Maybe it was the hotel stovetop". WRONG. The water always leaked from the middle and the coffee was never drinkable.I switched back to my Bialetti and perfect coffee, as always. (Also, I remember my Bialetti was very good even at first batch. Of course it gets better with time, when the pot "seasons".)Do not buy this crap pot!

The first cup of coffee was good, but as soon as I ran it through the washer, it went to ash color. Maybe, the detergent based on what I'm seeing on the web - but big disappointment. It's cheaply built, not sure it will last long, but I guess to be expected, since it's pretty cheap. WHATEVER YOU DO...DON"T WASH IN DISHWASHER.
