Just to clarify, you are not going to get the typical cafe-type crema with this. If done right, you can get great tasting-strong coffee that has a hint of crema that eventually disappears. With the right coffee to water ratio and pre-heating the water, you can great results. I typically do 15 grams of coffee to 60 grams of water, and warm up (not boil) the water for 30 secs on the microwave. I end up getting decent results, but play around with the water and coffee ratio to get the results you want, plus that's the fun part about owning one of these!

I previously had a Bialetti Iris, which I loved. I washed it in the dishwasher, which ruins an espresso maker. I was given the Brikka recommendation years back, so I decided on this 2 cup percolator. The first several times I used it, it basically took forever to brew and exploded in a rush, which set off the smoke detectors in my apartment. I wanted to return it, but due to a seller taking forever to respond, I decided to try and use it for my morning cappuccino until I could get a replacement. I experimented with several ways to brew it, which resulted in more overflows and burnt espressos. However, I think that the pressure release valve just needed some breaking in. I also adjusted the screw-on weight to be one full turn from tightened. I assemble the percolator as described by the instruction (no packing the espresso, the top screwed on tightly, etc.), and I now get wonderful espresso after 4 minutes! (electric stove on high) I suggest setting a timer for 4 minutes, and then lightly shaking the percolator side to side just to make sure the weight isn't heavy enough. The pressure will build up inside of the system, and an easier way to escape is between the top and bottom parts of the percolator. The light shaking makes sure that the steam comes through the top to give you a delightful espresso with crema and all! I have decided to keep the unit. If you don't want to have to break in the unit like I did (which was actually very easy), I suggest a bigger unit to prevent the overflowing.

By Zak Pawliuk
Not having any luck with this thing. I have tried a couple coffees, different amounts of coffee, and different temperatures on the stove while always filling to the H2O line. It takes a while to heat up then starts erupting coffee/bubbles and spatters all over the stove leaving about 2/3 of the coffee inside the unit. What is left inside tastes good but the mess is inexcusable. This was on our electric range but, on our gas stove, it took ages to heat (>5min) due to the flame pattern and the small base of the 2 cup unit. It spilled a little coffee but not quite as bad. I'm not sure what is up as some people seem to like it.....if I had not thrown away all the packaging and it was easy to return I would have done that....
